Me 'N' Dad

It amazes me that just six months ago these two were meeting for the first time. I knew as soon as Mike laid eyes on this little girl he would be changed forever. And I was right. These two have been like "peas and carrots" ever since. I claim that Hattie likes her dad "more" because of all the fun things he lets her do, like drive the care to daycare in the morning, drink from his glass, share ice cream, and the list goes on... I wouldn't want it any other way. I love these two, goofy smiles and all.

XOXO, Mom

Our YouTube Baby

Ok people. I work for a technology company and yet technology has me stumped again. This is the best I can offer up for seeing home videos of our little peanut.

Let me know if this doesn't work.

Randomness

So since I've gone back to work our blog has definitely been neglected. But have no fear. Here's a few pictures to keep you all content for awhile. :) I'll try to figure out how to add videos later. Our little doop sure is growing up fast!

Green Mustache

Sporting a green "stash"

"Mom, just let me do it."

Mom, "Hattie, are you full?"
Hattie, "What do you think."

Tonight marks a milestone for our little family. Hattie took her first bite of real food! Well sort of. That is if I don't count all the little nibbles of ice cream that her father has given her. Naughty daddy.

Tonight's menu was avocado. As you can see in the photos she enjoyed every bite. And for any mothers out there reading this, BUY A BABY BULLET. Best invention ever!! One avocado made enough for six feeds. Translation: I can already see the money pouring back into my coffee fund. :)

A shout out to Grandpa Greg. Thank you for the Baby Bullet! That little green smily face mashine has just found itself a new home on my counter.

Hoarder

Notice anything unusual about this diaper?
One might wonder why I would post a picture of our child in her diaper. However, if you look closely you will see this is no ordinary diaper. Oh no. For the older readers you may recognize the bulging plastic or the pictures of sleeping babies. If not, I hope you are sitting down when I tell you that this diaper is from... 1993. No, I did not stutter. It's true. This is vintage 1993 Pampers that Hattie is wearing. Now you may be asking yourself, "Why is Hattie wearing a 19 year old diaper?" Let me explain...

First off, never judge a first-time mom. That is a sin.

I'll admit it. I forgot to replenish the diaper supply in Hattie's diaper bag before going to visit Grandma and Grandpa Deinert one day (Note: this was before I gave G'ma Pat her own box of diapers to keep on hand.) You can image the look on my face when I went to reach for a diaper and... nothing. My first reaction was to get this child home before we had a really bad situation on our hands, litearlly.

But for all of you who are blessed to know Pat Deinert (I know I am!), she did not fail me. When idiot first-time-mother me said, "Oh crap, I don't have any diapers," of course Pat would say, "That's ok. I think I have some of Tim's old diapers."

Tim is 19 years old, people. Hence the title of this post...

Morale of the story? Never ever make fun of your mother-in-law for saving things. Because that is also a sin and will come back to bite you.

We love you, Grandma Pat!

Daddy's Little Girl

This post requires few words... There is nothing sweeter than the love shared between a father and his little girl.

Needles

Cute little circle band-aids for our little patient.
Well the dreaded "first shots" are now behind us. Hattie had her 2 month check up today and we are proud to report the following:

Height: 24 1/4"; 97th percentile
Weight: 13# 8oz; 97th percentile
Head size: 38.9cm; 50th percentile

As suspected Hattie's EPDs are right up there, although Mike is mildy concerned about her small head. Just before the nurse poked our little princess she warned us that we were about to hear a whole new kind of cry. Boy, did we. Mom managed to hold back the tears but it wasn't easy. All Mike could say was. "Well now we know what she sounds like when she's hurt."

At the end of our visit the Dr. reported that Hattie is as healthy as a horse. Amen for a healthy baby!

Patriotic Baby

First 4th of July!
Here she is! Miss Hattie is all decked out in red, white and blue today in honor of our country's birthday. And look, she even let her mom put a headband on her without even making a peep. Hattie will be celebrating her first Fourth in true Deinert fashion. We already kicked off her experience with fireworks at Scott's Supply last night. Today we will make the trip to Aunt Sharon and Uncle Bob's house where we'll spend then day snacking, watching the kiddie light bottle rockets into Lake Mitchell, and taking turns riding in Uncle Bob's boat. Tonight, granted Hattie makes it that far, we'll cap off the day by watching the firework show over lake Mitchell.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! And be sure to take a moment and send up a quick thanks to the good Lord above for our freedom.

Bird Watching

Hattie has once again started to change over the past few days, picking up on things hanging further than an arms reach from her face. Today I thought I'd set her facing the patio to see what she might do. Being the perfect child that she is, she contently sat staring out the window for about 20 minutes just cooing away at the birds and trees. I am just loving this new phase she is entering!

As for Hattie's first trip to Burke, it was a complete success. She slept like a rock star in Grandma Kate's pack-n-play and enjoyed spending Saturday afternoon with Great Grandpa Orris at Pie Day. Needless to say she was the center of attention with the old folks. Great Grandpa says she is a babe magnet. Ha!

Mark 16:16

Pastor Mindy Ehrke baptizing Hattie (06.24.12)
Our baby girl got baptized on Sunday! Although we were all dripping wet thanks to a broken AC unit and high humidity, nevertheless it was an incredibly special, unforgettable moment for Mike and I. We are so blessed to have Hattie in our lives and we count our blessings daily, especially for such a wonderful family who loves our babe to pieces! Between Grandma Kate's rocking sessions and Grandma Pat's endless kisses, Hattie is truly blessed with an awesome, loving family. Love you Deinert's and Petersen's!

The BOB

With the streets of Mt. Vernon being in disarray we are definitely loving our BOB stroller. Thanks to Uncle James we have been cruising the town not only in fashion, but in comfort. Here's a little video clip of Juan Juan enjoying a ride to the post office.

First Baseball Game

"Seriously, mom?"

Hattie and I decided to bundle up and head to the baseball field in Mt. Vernon to watch Uncle Tim play against Chamberlain. It was a little cool out for Hattie so this mean momma made her wear her bunny hat, which she loves. Not! Unfortunately the weather was a bit too cool and Hattie got hungry before we got to see Uncle Tim take the field. Oh well. We will attempt to make the next home game, weather and hungry baby permitting.
