Hoarder

Notice anything unusual about this diaper?
One might wonder why I would post a picture of our child in her diaper. However, if you look closely you will see this is no ordinary diaper. Oh no. For the older readers you may recognize the bulging plastic or the pictures of sleeping babies. If not, I hope you are sitting down when I tell you that this diaper is from... 1993. No, I did not stutter. It's true. This is vintage 1993 Pampers that Hattie is wearing. Now you may be asking yourself, "Why is Hattie wearing a 19 year old diaper?" Let me explain...

First off, never judge a first-time mom. That is a sin.

I'll admit it. I forgot to replenish the diaper supply in Hattie's diaper bag before going to visit Grandma and Grandpa Deinert one day (Note: this was before I gave G'ma Pat her own box of diapers to keep on hand.) You can image the look on my face when I went to reach for a diaper and... nothing. My first reaction was to get this child home before we had a really bad situation on our hands, litearlly.

But for all of you who are blessed to know Pat Deinert (I know I am!), she did not fail me. When idiot first-time-mother me said, "Oh crap, I don't have any diapers," of course Pat would say, "That's ok. I think I have some of Tim's old diapers."

Tim is 19 years old, people. Hence the title of this post...

Morale of the story? Never ever make fun of your mother-in-law for saving things. Because that is also a sin and will come back to bite you.

We love you, Grandma Pat!

Daddy's Little Girl

This post requires few words... There is nothing sweeter than the love shared between a father and his little girl.

Needles

Cute little circle band-aids for our little patient.
Well the dreaded "first shots" are now behind us. Hattie had her 2 month check up today and we are proud to report the following:

Height: 24 1/4"; 97th percentile
Weight: 13# 8oz; 97th percentile
Head size: 38.9cm; 50th percentile

As suspected Hattie's EPDs are right up there, although Mike is mildy concerned about her small head. Just before the nurse poked our little princess she warned us that we were about to hear a whole new kind of cry. Boy, did we. Mom managed to hold back the tears but it wasn't easy. All Mike could say was. "Well now we know what she sounds like when she's hurt."

At the end of our visit the Dr. reported that Hattie is as healthy as a horse. Amen for a healthy baby!

Patriotic Baby

First 4th of July!
Here she is! Miss Hattie is all decked out in red, white and blue today in honor of our country's birthday. And look, she even let her mom put a headband on her without even making a peep. Hattie will be celebrating her first Fourth in true Deinert fashion. We already kicked off her experience with fireworks at Scott's Supply last night. Today we will make the trip to Aunt Sharon and Uncle Bob's house where we'll spend then day snacking, watching the kiddie light bottle rockets into Lake Mitchell, and taking turns riding in Uncle Bob's boat. Tonight, granted Hattie makes it that far, we'll cap off the day by watching the firework show over lake Mitchell.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! And be sure to take a moment and send up a quick thanks to the good Lord above for our freedom.

Bird Watching

Hattie has once again started to change over the past few days, picking up on things hanging further than an arms reach from her face. Today I thought I'd set her facing the patio to see what she might do. Being the perfect child that she is, she contently sat staring out the window for about 20 minutes just cooing away at the birds and trees. I am just loving this new phase she is entering!

As for Hattie's first trip to Burke, it was a complete success. She slept like a rock star in Grandma Kate's pack-n-play and enjoyed spending Saturday afternoon with Great Grandpa Orris at Pie Day. Needless to say she was the center of attention with the old folks. Great Grandpa says she is a babe magnet. Ha!
